I lately humbeld over Nodehive and its Dashboard included in their content planner module which seems to be the third party company product version of what is worked on core in the Dashboard initiative and workspaces and content moderation corner.
Congratulations to this good looking product which fills the gap of a sexy dashboard, so it looks like at least at first glance. I am always happy to applaud and to send positive vibes for achievements and good examples what can be achieved with Drupal. But sometimes things need to be called out.
Only thing which solidly worries me here (again) is the same type of halftime commitment to the Open Source community of Drupal and its contributors in my eyes like with many other similar attempts before to incorporate Open Source achievements into a "product" which is not really open no more. In that sense, that it builds on top of what all we contributors have achieved and polished to its best, but cannot expand on top of itself no more. What me worries it not the fact that it is like that. It is the fact that this is wanted. It is called business-model build on top of Drupal. As we as a community agreed on in last years and many discussions is that we "accept" such attempts because it shows Drupal's strength. But for me it could be done better.
We should rather bundle all our energy and efforts to make this open and re-buildable for all. There are many Dashboard attempts out there and even Layout Builder, Panels and such could get more some more love or whatever to make it possible that everybody can build its own dashboard in the admin UI site builder process.
